One month old!

Disclaimer: These posts are more for a journal type thing, so they may really bore you. Don't feel obligated to watch the videos either...they aren't really exciting unless you are family haha. :)

Taysom turned 1 month old on April 11th. I cannot believe how quickly it has gone, but at the same time I feel like he has been with us for forever. It is true that once you get them you can't quite imagine your life without them in it. Being a mom is by far the most rewarding and amazing thing I have ever experienced! Here are a few stories and things about Taysom from his first month of life.

  • Breastfeeding: From the beginning, Taysom was a lazy eater. He wasn't very interested in having to work for his food. Our pediatrician told us that since I had a c-section it would make breastfeeding a little more challenging, but not impossible. I kept going on and kept feeding him every two hours. I thought everything was going well, but he stopped pooping for a few days and we were worried. The doctor said he wasn't getting enough to eat, so we needed to start supplementing him with formula. Though I was pretty sad about it, I knew that I needed to supplement him so that he could get enough to eat. I never fed him a bottle so that he didn't ever think that I was someone who gave him one, but as he ate more formula he also started to chomp down on me. Let me tell you...that hurts SO bad! Since he wasn't latching on correctly, I also wasn't producing very much milk. I tried every possible thing...supplements, pumping, re-teaching him how to nurse...in the end I just couldn't handle the pain. I didn't come to this decision overnight. I cried and worried and talked to Casey and my mom about it multiple times, but in the end I knew that Taysom just wasn't going to be a breastfed baby. I will admit I still have moments of sadness and I do worry that people will judge me for not breastfeeding him, but since I have stopped nursing he has been so much happier. He has also begun to gain weight like he is supposed to and is a lot healthier.

  • Taysom loves the bath. It is probably one of his favorite places to be. He can be totally upset and the moment he is put in the bath he is happy and calm.
  • Taysom loves to be swaddled. He loves the feeling of being wrapped up tight. Since he has started to get more control over his muscles he doesn't have to be swaddled all the time. He is already growing up so much.
  • Taysom has started to smile a lot. I know he isn't really responding to us yet, but he loves to smile. He has the most beautiful smile. I can't wait for him to start smiling and responding to us. It's just around the corner. :)

  • He is still wearing newborn clothes. He definitely has my body type...long and skinny. He barely fits in newborn pants because his little bum can't hold them up. He is so cute. :)
  • He has decided that he likes to nap in someone's arms during the day. We put him down and he wakes right back up. The greatest thing is that he doesn't do this at night though. He does well with sleeping in his bed. I am very thankful for that...if he is going to have to sleep in our arms I would rather it be during the day! That way we get some sleep at night. :)
  • Taysom is already eating 4 ounces at a time! He is quite a good little eater that's for sure. He has started to get chunky slowly. :)

Overall, he is a very happy and content baby. Being his mom is amazing. I love watching him change and grow every day.  He is my greatest blessing and I am so thankful that I have the chance to be his mom. :) Mommy loves you Taysom Wray King!

This is my necklace that I got from my step mom. :) I love it!
